Spearheaded by flautist and bandleader Harry Trevillion, Cityscape Ensemble formed after meeting at the FOLD jam session, held initially in Hilly Fields Park in Lewisham at the easing of lockdown before taking it’s home at the Matchstick
Piehouse in Deptford. The project’s compositions tend to be influenced by minimalist composers Steve Reich and Terry Riley: motifs and melodic phrases repeat and are used as frameworks for expansive, creative improvisation or to accompany soaring melodies. This approach leads to compositions inspired by everything from Cornish landscapes to mental health struggles- often with a somewhat hypnotic signature sound.
